MIDI Time Code Displays

Overview

The MIDI Time Code Display indicates the timecode data contained in the MIDI stream. MTC Displays can be used whenever you need to see the incoming MIDI time code precisely, clearly and independently. You can choose from various available versions or an special display can be designed and manufactured on request. mtcd2

How to use ARTech MIDI Time Code Displays

The display receives a MTC stream, as defined by the MIDI standard. It can be connected directly to any source of MIDI timecode data - sequencer, recorder, DAW, etc. All SMPTE time code formats - 24, 25, 30 and 30 dropframe - are automatically recognised. There are no special requirements for the incoming data or the device connection. Standard MIDI connectors (DIN 5) are used. ARTech MIDI Time Code Displays are equipped with MIDI In and MIDI Thru connectors. Therefore they can be connected anywhere in the MIDI chain. Connect the MIDI Out connector of the source of MIDI data to the MIDI In connector of MTC Display. The MTC Display output MIDI Thru output can be connected to the MIDI In connector of the following MIDI receiver.

Incoming MIDI Timecode data are instantly indicated. All displays support both Full MTC Message as well as the Quarter-frame MTC Message. The displayed information is very precise. When the display is in sync, the information is quarter-frame accurate even if the transport direction is changing (scrubbing, etc.). When feeded with the MTC Full Message, the display is instantly synchronised. When feeded with the quarter-frames only, the display is resynchronised after 8 consequent quarter-frames.
The proper function of MTC displays can be easily tested using a free program MTCQFG.

Desktop Displays

Desktop displays are housed in a metalic or plastic enclosure. All connectors are located on the rear side of the enclosure.

The desktop display MTCDS-05 in a plastic box has dimensions 160 mm (width), 50 mm (heigth) and 130 mm (depth).
The heigth of numbers is 14 mm. The displays are available in three colors - red (MTCDS-05r), yellow (MTCDS-05y) or green (MTCDS-05g). The desktop displays are powered by an external AC/DC adaptor.
MTCDS-05 display modules are also available.

Wall-mounted Displays

The wall mounted displays contain a flat display unit and a control unit with all connectors and controls. The display unit of the wall-mounted display MTCDX-01 in a metalic or wooden frame has dimensions 1250 mm (width), 280 mm (heigth) and 50 mm (depth). The heigth of numbers is 127 mm.

Connect the cable from the display unit to the Display 15 pin Cannon connector of the control unit. Connect the power supply adaptor to the Power connector. When the display is switched on using Power switch, the presence of the power is indicated by a power LED. The Bright switch serves for the brightness selection, the Sleep switch activates the auto shut-down function.
The wall-mounted displays are powered by an external AC/DC power supply.

Display modules

Display modules (electronics without enclosure) for embeded applications are available. The smallest available display modules MTCDS-05xm have dimensions 135 mm (width), 40 mm (heigth) and 27 mm (depth). The heigth of LED numbers is 14 mm. The modules are available in three colors - red (MTCDS-05rm), yellow (MTCDS-05ym) or green (MTCDS-05gm). The MTCDS-05xm modules are powered by 7.5V / 500mA - DC.
