In 1752, meteorological measurements and observations began in Klementinum in Prague. Since 1775, the results of daily measurements have been consistently recorded, making it the longest continuous record of its kind in the world. In 2015, we have a record of temperatures for the past 240 years. The variation of instantaneous temperature during the alternation of day and night and the variation of average daily temperatures during the year combine regularity with irregularity, cyclicality with linearity, order with chaos. The sequence of daily minimum, maximum and average temperatures is the basis of the score for a pair of complementary instruments. The piano produces discrete percussive tones with fixed pitches; the theremin produces a continuous tone with variable pitch. The recording's temperature steps correspond to the chromatic scale steps of conventional equal-tempered tuning. On a time scale, one week of recording corresponds to one second of a composition.

V roce 1752 se v pražském Klementinu započalo s meteorologickým měřením a pozorováním. Od roku 1775 jsou výsledky denních měření soustavně zaznamenávány a tvoří tak nejdelší souvislý záznam tohoto druhu ve světě. V roce 2015 máme k dispozici záznam teplot za 240 uplynulých let. Kolísání okamžité teploty v průběhu střídání dne a noci i kolísání průměrných denních teplot v průběhu roku v sobě spojuje pravidelnost s nepravidelností, cykličnost s linearitou, řád s chaosem. Posloupnost denních minimálních, maximálních a průměrných teplot je základem partitury pro dvojici komplementárních nástrojů. Klavír vytváří diskrétní perkusivní tóny s pevnými tónovými výškami, theremin produkuje kontinuální tón s proměnnou výškou. Teplotní stupně záznamu odpovídají stupňům chromatické stupnice běžného rovnoměrně temperovaného ladění. V časovém měřítku odpovídá jeden týden záznamu jedné sekundě skladby.
